RECIPES:

Brian Whitehorn a retired Land Surveyor, is a passion chef whose Dullstroom restaurant Die Tonteldoos Bistro, was awarded the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs blazon and National Platter in the 1990’s. He loves to share his passion by sharing his recipes, ideas and tips. In the future and beyond, he will be releasing some of his favourite recipes and ideas:

SAUCY CHEF
COOKERY COURSES:

Brian hosts practical hands-on cookery workshops, tailor-made to suit clients’ tastes. Saucy Chef cookery courses are offered as a corporate team building exercise or as a one-day course, for 10 pax or more or as a fun weekend activity for groups of 6 – 8 people.

ONE DAY COURSES:

Are held on the farm and are normally planned around a luncheon accommodating up to 18 people. This can be made up of individuals, groups of friends, birthday parties, or work colleagues, or even year-end or team building functions. Day Courses include the food, all the recipes for the day, a glass (or two) of an appropriate wine. (non-participating friends or partners can join in for the lunch at R300.00 per person) For further details please discuss with Brian.

ONE DAY COURSES:

The focus is on fellowship and the courses are intended to be fun, very sociable, and based on the fellowship of friends. Apart from the fun and games in the kitchen and around the table, Paardeplaats also has many getaway alternatives on offer, such as walking, hiking, mountain biking, birding, wildflowers or just relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine. Weekend Courses are planned well ahead and require plenty of thought and discussion. They include all meals and accommodation in 4 en suite rooms, with hands–on, guest participation in the preparation, of all meals. Recipes will be provided for all we prepare in the kitchen, then to be enjoyed around the table. All you need to bring along are your own appropriate wines (Brian can help with suggestions) and drinks for the weekend: Prices are dependent on numbers and the type of food planned for the weekend. A 10% discount, for groups of 8 pax, would apply.

CATERED PAARDEPLAATS ‘SURREY’ (TRACTOR) PICNIC MENU OPTIONS:

One of the prime, fun activities, for families, groups or team building exercises on Paardeplaats is a ‘Surrey Tractor Picnic ‘.  Spend 5 hours in nature, enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery we have to offer in our country, travelling at a slow pace! Picnics are either catered or self-catered. For some ideas for catered picnics see below:

Note: One can ‘mix & match’ from the menus below. Most are suitable for up to 12 to 14 pax. All would need a minimum of 10 pax. Picnics take from 4 to 6 hours, starting from 9 am.  I would need at least a few days to plan and prepare. All options can include the option of a well-chilled and pared white wine or “Hops Hollow craft beer” (Long Tom Pass) at an extra cost of R50 – R60pp (depending on choices)
If you have any special requests, please discuss with Brian, or you can come up with your own ideas and I will do my best!
