- We’re very excited – we were awarded 9.4 points out of 10, by Booking.Com, based on visitor’s comments for 2023.
- We experienced a very cold winter with all the Kiepersol’s and many aloes, being burnt by frost.
- Our rainfall, so far this summer, has been good.

WELCOME TO PAARDEPLAATS NATURE RETREAT – LYDENBURG!
Paardeplaats Nature Retreat is an out of the ordinary guest farm, situated on top of the escarpment at 2000m above sea level, on the scenic Longtom Mountain Pass (R37), between Lydenburg and Sabie, in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. It’s only an hour’s drive from the Kruger National Park’s Pabeni gate and within an hour of the Panorama Route highlights, including the “Big Five” waterfalls and other attractions i.e., Sabie, Graskop, Pilgrim’s Rest and Blyde River. On Paardeplaats, guests break away to 500 ha of unspoilt nature, in total privacy and tranquillity, living in historical stone buildings, dating back to the gold mining era, of the mid 1800’s, situated next to a mountain stream with beautiful views of our valley.

Paardeplaats is situated at 2000 meters above sea level, on the beautiful Longtom Mountain Pass (R37), on 500 ha of dramatic mountain scenery, and we offer you a share in our Nature Experience, in total privacy. For singles, smaller groups from two, to larger groups of up to 12. Whether you are here on business, or as a group of friends, or a family, or an athlete looking for high altitude training facilities, and are looking for fully catered or self-catered facilities, in what we like to call “elegant simplicity”, you need look no further!

WE ARE 100% OFF-THE-GRID
AND ECO-FRIENDLY
Off-the grid, self-catering or catered accommodation in 4 elegant, comfortable en suite rooms, each with verandah and view of the mountain and stream. Ideal for nature lovers, couples or groups of up to 12, seeking peace and tranquility or family therapy in secluded nature. Paardeplaats is also home to a herd of wild horses who roam the planes and often visit the guest facility. Indigenous protea, fynbos and field orchids as well as small game (grey and red reedbuck, klipspringer, eland, civet and duiker) add to the unspoilt nature experience.
Paardeplaats is totally off the Eskom grid (NO load shedding!) with a sophisticated 5kW solar system providing wi-fi, lighting, basic plug points for computers, phones and sleep apnoea machines in the rooms. The well-equipped kitchen has two large Bosch AA fridge/freezers, where self-catering guests can have fun cooking on an old fashioned Union 7 wood stove, or a gas cooker and or an under roof, open braai hearth with seating for up to 20 people.
Sweet mountain water comes from a secure upstream fountain feeding our stream.
