SAUCY CHEF COOKERY COURSES:

Saucy Chef Cookery Courses are aimed at those who enjoy fellowship and share a passion for food – not for food snobs or critics, but for people who derive pleasure and fun from the process of planning, preparing and presenting food, and of course, enjoying the pleasures and ambiance created around the table.

Our hands-on workshops are not only demonstrations, but rather an invite to a fun party, and meal, enjoying the process while learning. Participants are taught to handle the heat in the kitchen, without burning their fingers, and they receive all the recipes, relating to the course.

Saucy Chef One Day Courses are held on the farm or at Crust Restaurant in Lydenburg, and are normally planned around a luncheon accommodating up to 18 people. This can be made up of individuals, groups of friends, birthday parties, or work colleagues, or even year-end or team building functions.
Day Courses cost between R200 and R500.00 per person, which includes the food, all the recipes for the day, a glass (or two) of an appropriate wine. (non participating friends or partners can join in for the lunch at R200.00 per person)

Saucy Chef Weekend Courses are intended for couples or friends who share a mutual interest in  culinary pleasures. The focus is on fellowship and the courses are intended to be fun, and very sociable, based on the fellowship of friends.

Apart from the fun and games in the kitchen and around the table, Paardeplaats also has many getaway alternatives on offer, such as walking, hiking, mountain biking, birding, wild flowers or just relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine.
Weekend Courses normally cost between R2000 and R2500.00 per person sharing, which includes all meals and accommodation in 4 en suite rooms. With hands–on, guest participation in the preparation, all meals are planned, and recipes provided for all we prepare in the kitchen, and then enjoyed around the table.

All you need to bring along are your own appropriate wines (Brian can help with suggestions) and drinks for the weekend: Prices are dependent on numbers and the type of food planned for the weekend. A 10% discount, for groups of 8 pax, would apply.

NOTE: To make your ‘on line’ booking easier, Paardeplaats now has a ‘YOKO’ credit card system, for Master & Visa cards.

Catered Paardeplaats ‘Surrey’ Picnic Menu Options:

One of our prime, fun activities, for families, groups or team building exercises on Paardeplaats is a ‘Surrey Tractor Picnic ‘.  Spend 5 hours in nature, enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery we have to offer in our country, travelling at a slow pace! Picnics are either catered or self catered. For some ideas for catered picnics see below:

 

Note: One can ‘mix & match’ from the menu’s below. Most are suitable for up to 12  to 14 pax. All would need a minimum of 10 pax. Picnics take from 4 to 6 hours, starting from 9 am.  I would need at least a couple of days to plan and prepare. All options can include the option of a well chilled and matched white wine or “Anvil Ale House”(Dullstroom) beer at an extra cost of R30 – R50pp (depending on choices)

If you have any special requests, please discuss with Brian, or you can come up with your own ideas and I will do my best!

Remember we’re on a picnic, in nature, and it’s all in the name of fun! So enjoy yourself!

Paardeplaats Nature Retreat is situated on the Longtom Pass (R37), 12 km from the Lydenburg Wimpy. The gate is on the left hand side, at the “JESUS” hill. Turn in at the gate (undo the clip, the gate is not locked) and travel on the gravel road for about one kilometer to Lucas’ stone house (on right), continue another 100 meters, and keep left at the fork in the road, to the bottom of the hill (about 500 meters). Keep left at the boom, and continue for another 200 meters to the house. Please use our diagrammatic route map from the website (at ‘Contact & Rates’), if you are not sure.
